Squad
The term “Squad” at Bury Spectrum refers to our classes where the gymnasts train for 2 hours+ per week. We have a range of classes offering anywhere from 2hrs-22hrs training per week.
Movement from Recreational/Tumbling Teddy classes to Squad classes, and up within Squad classes, happens periodically. All Gymnasts within our club are monitored and assessed regularly, then progressed to train additional hours when physically, mentally, and emotionally ready. It is our aim to ensure that each gymnast is treated as an individual to ensure that where they wish to, that they are able to reach their full potential.
For our younger gymnasts, we have a Development section within our Squad classes where gymnasts work on specific physical, mental and skill development, preparing them to potentially progress through to a higher level of gymnastics when they are older. Typically, our development gymnasts remain in this class until they are around 6 years old. We then move the gymnasts out into our various other squad classes which train 2hrs, 3.5hrs, 4.5hrs, or 9hrs per week, the number of future hours offered depends on how the gymnasts are progressing.
All gymnasts at the club are offered the chance to compete at Club and County level. Within Squad we do have an expectation that our gymnasts will compete in all events offered to them with the potential for them to qualify for Regional and National finals.
For our Woman’s Artistic Squad, we work within a range of grading systems, entering Suffolk, Club, Regional, National and Compulsory Grades. Our Men’s Artistic Squad work at County and Regional GG level, where applicable we recommend alternative clubs to progress their talent beyond. We also have a strong Tumbling squad that compete at Regional and National events. We have gymnasts in Suffolk County and Eastern Region Squads for both Woman’s Artistic and Tumbling, and in past years have achieved National World Class Start Squad placings with our gymnasts.
We do welcome gymnasts wishing to move from other clubs to ours for various reasons. If you are interested in joining our squad from another club, please email manager@buryspectrumgymnastics.co.uk with your child’s Name/Date of birth/Number of Current Training Hours/Top Skill Set on Each Apparatus, and we will get back to arrange a trial in a suitable class.
